For lots of people, the week between Christmas and New Year's Day is a time of rest and relaxation, with time off work, visits to family and friends, and general recovery from all of the exertions to get ready for Christmas.
But that doesn't mean there's nothing to do. Now, I'm not suggesting that you go out and troll all of the after-Christmas sales, but there are Christmas-related things to do:
- Write your Christmas thank you notes. You should send a written thank you to anyone who gave you a present unless it was a present exchange and you exchanged them in person. No, calls, emails, and texts are not sufficient. Handwritten notes with stamps.
- You can shop the sales for decorations that need to be replaced (broken lights. etc.) or to buy Christmas cards, wrapping paper, ribbon, and boxes for next year.
- Go for a walk or drive around the neighborhood to look at the decorations.
- Make notes for yourself about what went well and what didn't. That cookie recipe that was just ok? Toss it. The yummy dip, file it for next year.
- Use the cards you've received to update your address list.
- Watch all of those Christmas movies that you DVRed to watch later.
I'll be back at work tomorrow, but I'll blog the rest of this week about other things to do this week, to prepare for a great 2016.
