If you want to deduct your charitable contributions on your 2014 taxes, you must make the contribution before the year's end.
You can do that by making an online contribution or by sending a check dated no later than December 31st (and please don't date the check December 31st and mail it in February — that's just bad form).
Take a few moments today or tomorrow to look at what you've donated so far this year and how much more you want to donate. Then divide that amount among the groups you choose to support, making a record for tax purposes.
Also, take a look at your accounts. Do you need to move money to cover your Christmas bills or quarterly taxes? Can you move more money to savings or to your retirement account? Do you have bonds or CDs that have matured that need to be cashed in? If so, where will you invest that money?
Finally, gather any gift cards you got for Christmas (you understand that they are money, right?) and put them in a place that you can find them and use them. Every year, businesses profit from people who do not use their gift cards. Don't throw money away by misplacing gift cards or failing to use them.
