March 13, 2019The Purposes of Lenten Fasting
March 19, 2019We live in a culture that values productivity. We measure our own value and the value of others by how much is accomplished. A good day is the day that we cross everything off our list.
Lent is an invitation to slow down. To read and pray. To take advantage of special Lenten services like Stations of the Cross or faith formation offerings or service projects. To get off the hamster wheel and just be.
I don’t slow down well. I have a tendency to go at top speed until I run out of energy and collapse for a few days. For me, slowing down and focusing on doing less is a type of Lenten discipline. I try to refocus on things that are important, rest and renew, so that I can come to Easter with a whole heart.
