Oscar Fashion Roundup 2010
March 8, 2010Spring is Coming
March 11, 2010I had an interesting discussion with a friend yesterday about whether luxury and simplicity are opposites.
I don't think so. In fact, luxury materials are typically at their best when at their most simple. A perfect strawberry dipped in quality dark chocolate is a simple but luxurious dessert. A luxurious fabric, like silk or cashmere, is best enjoyed when it's in a simple form — a throw, a blouse, a cushion.
The higher the quality of the ingredients, the fewer "extras" it needs. A soft crusty bread. Fine cheese. A good wine. A luxurious, though simple picnic.
What do you think: Are luxury and simplicity opposite?
