Valentine’s Day

February 17, 2017I have some business travel coming up, so that got me thinking about being well-organized when it comes to traveling.
Here are some of the tips I've accumulated over the years:
- Whenever possible, limit connecting flights. Every time a plane has to land and takeoff, t's just another opportunity for a delay.
- If you have to fly through a meal, you can carry food with you. It's also worth checking the menus posted by your airline. I've found that some very tasty meals on planes are cheaper than the food you can buy in the airport.
- Focus on packing versatile items of clothing so you need to carry less. I have a basic travel wardrobe that I wear on almost every trip. You might want to create a standard list to make packing easier.
- Keep a quart zip-top plastic bag packed with your toiletries. All you need to do is toss it in the front pocket of your suitcase.
- Be ready for airport security. Keep your toiletries accessible so that you can toss the bag into a bin. Empty your pockets no later than when you are standing in line. Wear shows that go off and on easily. Keep your laptop accessible.
- When you check in to a hotel, if you will be there for more than a night, unpack completely. If you have time, iron everything that is wrinkled right away. It will make the rest of the trip easier.
- Airplane time is one of the last bastions of quiet time. I use it to catch up on reading, writing notes, even some needlework. It's so much better than watching old movies on tiny screens.
- Hotel time can be a great time to binge watch shows you've downloaded.
- Don't try to do too much when you are on vacation. You can end up wearing yourself out. And you won't really experience all the things you visit.
- Pack extra patience. Travel will always include some hassles. the more patient you are, they easier it will be to get to where you are going.
