Holiday Weekend
February 12, 2016On the Reasonableness of Lenten Fasting
February 17, 2016It's been an odd weather weekend here. The end of last week through the weekend were incredibly cold, with wind chills in the single digits. It snowed most of Monday, transitioning to sleet in the evening. This morning, we had torrential rain. By midafternoon, the sun was shining brightly and the temperature had moved to early spring ranges. After a brief temperature midweek, the weekend will be a preview of early May.
While I have no idea what clothes to take out of my closet each day, this week's higher temperature (and rain showers) do have me beginning to think about spring. Of course, my thoughts turn to planning for spring and summer.
Here are some things you need to be thinking about to get ready for the warmer months:
- If you want to plant a garden (flower or food), decide where you will plant and what you will plant. Order seeds or seedlings as needed. If you need to arrange to have sod turned, make those arrangements. Purchase any accessories or soil conditioners you might need.
- Look at the outdoor furniture and accessories that you stored last fall and see if anything requires repair, repainting, etc.
- On one of these nice sunny days, take a walk around your property and simply make a list of outdoor projects you'll need to address once the weather turns for good. (Top on my list is putting up a clothesline so I can use nature to dry my laundry instead of lots of electricity.)
- If you have children who will require day care in the summer, begin making arrangements now to get the broadest choice.
- If the weather turns cold again, start making vacation plans!
