Spring Planning

March 5, 2010Yes, I'm blogging about summer while there is still snow on the ground. But now is a good time to take care of some basic planning for the summer:
- Now is the time to get some vacation time on the office calendar. If you plan to rent a place, you need to do that within the next two weeks.
- If you have a child who will be home for the summer, you need to make plans — day care, camps, or the like if you work outside the home. If you stay at home, you still need to plan for long summer days at home. Begin gathering craft supplies for rainy days. Collect puzzles and board games. Consider putting some toys away to come out when summer boredom strikes.
- Make a list of inexpensive (preferably free) local day trips (or partial day trips). Examples might include a picnic in a local park, a museum, a trip to a farmers' market (if you go outside the very busy times, farmers are great about sharing recipes and ideas and will help teach your kids about healthy eating), physical activities outside the house, local festivals and fairs, etc.
- Make an effort to prepare your home so that you can welcome guests informally in the summer months.
