Here are some occasional tasks you should take care of sometime this month:

• Put away all of your Christmas presents and store your decorations.
• Set up new files for 2017.
• Purge files you no longer need to keep. I generally get shred about a year at a time.
• Create a file for your 2016 taxes and gather your paperwork (W-2s, 1099s, etc.) as it comes in.
• Review your retirement accounts to make sure you are saving at the proper level.
• Set up any annual appointments with doctors, accountants, and other professionals.
• Review any automatic payments or deposits to make sure that you want them to continue.

None of these take a long time, but gthey will make things easier.
