Side Effects of Decluttering
May 20, 2016Christmas Countdown – 7 Months
May 24, 2016Though meteorological summer is still almost a month away, the traditional "summer season" begins with Memorial Day next Monday.
I thought this article offered some great ideas about getting ready to make the most of your summer. I'll be posting more on the topic in the next few weeks, but this is a great starting point.
I will just highlight two things:
1) Don't overschedule. This matters whether or not you have kids. Some of us tend to overschedule everything. (You may be acquainted with the experience of coming home from vacation more tired than when you left!) We see this expanse of open time and try to fill it with all those things we've been trying to find time to do. At least attempt making most of those things the most entertaining on your list — things like visiting a pick your own berries farm or reading the novel everyone is talking about or seeing the summer blockbusters — instead of focusing only on cleaning out the basement and finishing the wallpapering of the guest bathroom. Even elves need time to relax.
2) Do keep a calendar. My brain needs time to rest in the summer. That means I write everything down and check my calendar and to-do list several times a day. Otherwise, I'm running mad trying to do the things I forgot.
What are you doing this week to get ready for the summer?
