The Good and Bad of Spring
April 23, 2008Mother’s Day!
April 25, 2008I know. It seems like spring just started. But there are some things you can do know so that you are ready to enjoy your summer.
- Make your vacation plans. The earlier you plan and the more flexible you can be, the more likely your are to save money. Fuel costs will be high this summer, so you will need to cut back in other areas. Use the Internet to find free or low cost attractions, such as museums, street festivals and concerts. Write down the zip code of where you are going and try to find some local grocery stores online. (The national companies will let you search by zip code.) They often sell reduced price tickets for amusement parks. Consider eating a farmer’s market lunch of bread, cheese, and fruit rather than going to a restaurant. (It’s better for you too!) All of these things take a bit of planning, but they can stretch your vacation dollars.
- Now is a good time to clean and repair your outdoor furniture, grills, etc. Make sure that your patio, porch, deck, etc. are in good repair.
- Check the filters on your air conditioners and have the whole system inspected if necessary.
- Find a good place for the pile of magazines and books that will be your summer reading.
- Master the art of making herbal iced tea. I sweeten mine with a little apple juice. It’s a tasty and healthy way to refresh yourself.
- Lay in a supply of sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. Remember, the top of your head is skin and it burns too.
- If you get a rainy weekend, go through your winter clothes before putting them away for the season. If you aren’t going to wear them again, say bye bye.
- Launder and store your winter bed linens. A few muslin bags of lavendar in a trunk will repel moths and make things smell lovely.
- You’ll be showing more skin in the summer. Now’s a good time to exfoliate and moisturize.
