July 31, 2019Back to School: Summer Reading and Assignments
August 5, 2019Labor Day is one month from today! That means you have a whole month of summer left! (I apologize to people in those states that believe it is acceptable to begin the school in early August!)
I know that once August begins it feels like summer is over. All the back to school commercials and store displays probably have something to do with that! But do try to enjoy these last weeks before things return to their usual hectic pace:
- Take a look at your summer goals. You may not have time left to finish all of them, so just choose one and make a concerted effort.
- Eat outside at least once. Grill and eat outdoors. Have a picnic. Eat on the beach. Whatever makes you happy.
- Block out some time to do something relaxing: lie on a hammock, take a midday nap, go for a walk in the woods or in a garden.
- Read for fun.
Where I am in Washington, DC, August is the quiet time. Congress is in recess. Most internships have ended. School doesn’t start until much later in the month. The high tourist numbers start to fall as families end their vacations to get home and prepare for the school year. Even the newspaper is smaller. August 1st was my last deadline for the summer. I’ll be reading and trying to soak up as much sun as possible before autumn begins.
