Saint Joseph’s Day
March 19, 2018Easter Traditions
March 23, 2018Theoretically, spring arrives today. It feels a bit odd since, here in DC, March has been the most wintry month of the year. February was quite warm. People were even in shorts!
But the calendar and the position of the sun says it is spring. so we must prepare. The first day that the thermometer creeps above 60 and there’s no rain, open all of the windows in your house. There is nothing that will make you feel spring like opening your home to fresh air. I’m always surprised at what a difference it makes. The fresh air seems to force winter out of the corners and give me new energy.
If you’ve finished your spring cleaning, there are other things you can do to bring spring into your home and your life.
- Buy fresh flowers and place them in vases scattered around the house. There is no rule that says you can’t have flowers in the bathroom.
- Stop at a local farmer’s market and pick up some early season greens or fresh peas. Those are among the few things in season this early and eating them is like tasting spring.
- Switch out heavy winter blankets for lighter weight coverings.
- Do a body scrub to get rid of winter dry skin.
- Begin sorting and cleaning your clothes so that you can store winter clothes and coats.
- Find your galoshes so that you are ready for April showers!
How do you welcome spring?
