New (to me) Technology
March 10, 2014Too Much Stuff
March 19, 2014Sorry I've been silent for a week. I had a trip for work and I just haven't mastered blogging from my phone.
But this trip gave me time to think about something: serendipity. You may have noticed that some people seem to have all the luck. For some reason, they always have the best stories and the craziest experiences.
Well, I'm one of these people. For some reason, even when I'm doing the most basic tasks, fun things end up happening to me. On my flight to the meeting last week, I became friends with the two other passengers in my row and ended up with a free bottle of wine!
Why do these things happen to some people?
First, there is an element of luck.
Second, the more you put yourself out there — getting out of the house, traveling, volunteering, etc. — the more opportunities you'll have for amazing things to happen.
Finally, i think temperament is a big factor. If you are willing to take some chances, you are more likely to have amazing experiences. I start conversations with strangers. I stop to watch street performers. I try to stay aware of my surroundings and look for opportunities to be kind. I try not to worry about whether or not people will think I'm silly.
What do you think? What creates serendipity?
