August 14, 2013In Elf World, yesterday was a day of productive procrastination. (A friend of mine coined the term. I don't remember who. Please identify yourself so that I can laud your genius.)
Productive procrastination is when you delay doing the things you need to do NOW by doing other things you need to do, but which are less urgent, albeit more pleasant. So, instead of cleaning the fridge or balancng the checkbook, you reorganize a drawer or shop for a birthday present or make soup for later lunches.
Productive procrastination is insididious. It lets you feel like you are making progress while allowing you to delay essential tasks.
So, yesterday, instead of working on my next book and finding my passport, I finished two partially done crocheting projects and started polishing my silver tea service. Of course, my book deadline looms and I still don't have my passport in hand.
Do you procrastinate productively? What do you do?
