Next Friday is July 4th and, for many people, the beginning of a three-day weekend.  It’s also a traditional time for entertaining.  Here are some things to keep in mind as you make your plans:

• You need to make your invitations before this weekend is out so you’ll know how many people to prepare for.
• Make sure that, in addition to food, you plan for lighting, a power source, a shady place for guests to cool down, and a way to fight the bugs.
• You need a plan in case it rains.
• Ask the guests to refrain from bringing fireworks.  They are dangerous and scare puppies!
• In planning your menu, focus on fresh.  Grilled meats and vegetables, a simple saald, fresh fruit, and ice cream is a menu fit for royalty. What else do you need?
