Summer Entertaining
June 9, 2008Using Summer to Get Ahead
June 11, 2008Today I picked up my first vegetables from my CSA (community supported agriculture) share. The heat here has been ridiculous and we had a ton of rain earlier, so things are a little light yet.
I got spring onions, garlic scapes, bok choy, tat soi, salad greens, and some lovely basil. Within the next few weeks, the amounts available should increase substantially, provided the weather holds.
That's one of the things that has pleased me about this whole process. I find myself paying far more attention to the weather than I used to — thinking about how it will affect the crops. It gives me a stake in agricultural production. That's an important element.
Now, I have to find something to make with garlic scapes.
