Mardi Gras
March 4, 2014Reflections on Lent
March 7, 2014It's a law of physics, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. A body in motion will stay in motion. A body at rest will stay at rest.
When you're being active, it easier to maintain the activity. But once you sit down and put the feet up, inertia settles in. It gets harder and harder to get up and do the things you need to do and easier and easier to put them off. Even though you know you'll regret it later, it's just so much easier to stay at rest.
This year for Lent, I'm giving up inertia. I'm going to try to be the body that stays in motion until it's time to rest. That means that I have to eliminate some things that foster inertia – like leaving the TV on as background noise which means you end up watching a bit more or picking up the crocheting before I've finished what I need to accomplish.
I've started building a schedule with a task or two for every day. I can't sit down and veg or head off to bed until each day's list is complete.
Hopefully, by the time Easter is here, inertia will be a thing of the past.
