Tackling a Big Tasks

April 19, 2010If bad weather keeps you indoors ths weekend, here are three ways to organize your household tasks for greater efficiency:
1) Assembly Line — This method works great if serveral people share a space. Each person is assigned a task, does the task, and passes things on to the next person. One person mows, one trims, one rakes. One person straightens, one vacuums, one dusts. You get the idea. If you are doing one task, you can develop a rhythm and really move it along.
2) Focused Area — Identify areas that must be addresses: garage, yard, shed, junk drawer, bedroom closet, whatever. Prioritize that list. then start at the top and finish each item before moving on to the next. You must do the list in order and you must finish before moving on. This will keep you from ending your cleaning day with rooms full of unfinished products.
3) One Task at a Time — In this method, you identify and prioritize the tasks. Then you do all of that task that needs to be done. So, you might de-clutter the kitchen and the family room and the office and the bedroom. Then you mop the bathroom and the kitchen and the laundry room. Then you dust the whole house. Then you vacuum the whole house. You'll develop a rhythm which each task and you can store equipment as you finish each task.
