The Dark Side of Festive Gatherings
December 20, 2007Alone at Christmas
December 22, 2007This weekend will be prime time for travelling by car and by air. Airports will have crowded parking lots and long security lines. Many highways will be bumper to bumper, barely moving.
Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time. If you have extra time, you can be more patient.
If you are travelling by plane, you cannot transport wrapped gifts. Also, pack all liquids and gels in your checked bags. Make sure that your bags have tags, inside and out, The tags should have a number where you can be reached. If possible, print out your boarding passes before you get to the airport. Some airports will even let you reserve a parking space online.
If you are travelling by car, make sure you have snacks and beverages so that you can minimize stops. If the driver feels sleepy, a quick hit of caffeine or a blast of cold air can do wonders. If that doesn’t work, please pull over and take a quick nap. By all means, don’t drink and drive. I would miss you.
If someone is travelling to your home, give them some alone time to rest and re-orient when they arrive. Put some water and a thermos of hot cider or hot chocolate in there room along with some snacks and let them have a bit of a rest before joining the festivities.
Travel safely.
