Stepping Back
April 4, 2016When the Routine Fails
April 8, 2016You have a little over a week to finish your taxes and file them. (I filed a few weeks back and my refund has already been deposited in my account — and moved to savings.)
Once you're finished with filing, it's a good idea to go through your financial files and get rid of things you don't need to keep. I know it's something I really need to do. I have statements for bank accounts so old that the banks don't even exist anymore!
I'm a regular reader of Michelle Singletary, a personal finance columnist in the Washington Post. I don't always agree with her (she can get quite judge-y), but I found this article about what you need to keep and for how long quite helpful. You might want to use it as a cheat sheet as you decide what to keep, what to toss, and what to shred.
