Christmas Countdown — Two Weeks
December 10, 2009Blue Christmas
December 14, 2009Sunset tonight marks the beginning of the 8-day festival of Hanukkah.
Though not a major religious observance, its proximity to Christmas has elevated it in importance.
There are lots of things I love about Hanukkah:
- You celebrate for 8 days. We spend so much time preparing to celebrate that we often forget to enjoy the celebration itself. Eight days gives time to really embrace the celebration and take your time about the enjoyment.
- The festival is marked by an increase in the light and warmth of the menorah. On cold winter days, we can all use a reminder of our world's need for more light and warmth.
- I like the idea of giving small gifts rather than one huge one.
- Food fried in oil — doughnuts, latkes, etc. What's not to love?
