Some Shopping Hints
September 7, 2012September 11th
September 11, 2012I know! Halloween is still about 50 days away! that doesn't mean it's too early to start planning.
The amount of planning required depends on how elaborate your celebrations are.
If all you do is hand out treats to the kinds who knock on your door, you can ignore the holiday until the weekend before. Even though the stores have started stocking Halloween candy already, if you buy it now, it's not going to make it until October 31st. REPEAT: Do NOT buy your Halloween candy yet.
However, more planning is needed if you decorate your house extensively or host a party or make your kids' costumes. Also, if you buy your kids' costumes and they aren't the types to change their minds 6 times between now and Halloween, you'll get the biggest selection by shopping early.
If you host a party, start de-cluttering a bit at a time. That will make it easier to clean and decorate the party space. Also, begin planning your guest list, menu, and decor. You can even start gathering the decorations you'll need and you might even be able to do some early food preparation.
If you make costumes, get the kids to a decision and gather the materials, patterns, and accessories you'll need. You don't want to spend the night of the 30th traipsing all over town trying to find a sword for the pirate costume or sequins for the fairy costume.
If you decorate, move your decorations into your staging space to check for any necessary repairs. Fix or replace things that are damaged. Purchase any supplies you need to make new decorations.
