Happy New Year!
September 18, 2009Autumnal Equinox
September 22, 2009Unless you live in a very warm climate, it's time to talk out your fall clothes. Into strorage go the shorts and sundresses and sandals. Out come the sweaters and wool and boots.
Before you store anything, make sure it's clean and in good repair. If you can't fix it to make it wearble, why would you waste storage space? Also, if you never wore it this summer, it may be time to pass it on.
For things coming out of storage, make any repairs necessary. If it's not in wearable condition, you aren't likely to wear it! Also, if it doesn't fit or you just don't like it, pass it on.
For things that don't fit, I like to follow Oprah's rule: You can keep smaller clothes as long as you are actively engaged in a program that will get you back into them. So, if you are following an exercise and diet program, you may keep them. If you aren't, you have to decide which you dread more: giving away your skinny clothes or starting to diet and exercise. (As a note, anyone with a temporary weight gain due to pregnancy or medication is absolved from this requirement.)
When you take out your fall clothes, it's not a bad idea to make a listing of the various pieces and combinations. It can be a huge help when deciding what to wear. Without such a list, you find yourself wearing the same things over and over because you forget what you have.
