Fall Cleaning – Part 2
October 9, 2015Why Dealing with Clutter Matters
October 13, 2015Ok, so we've cleaned the kitchen and the public areas of the house, but we're not done yet.
You want the private areas of the house – specifically the bedrooms — to be tidy and restful as well. Let's face it. Life is stressful enough. You don't need the clutter and confusion in your bedroom to add to your daily stress. So what can you do:
- Since you'll need to switch out your summer clothes for your winter clothes (Bye bye, sundresses! Hello, sweaters!), you might as well take a few extra minutes to get rid of the clothes that no longer fit, are in bad repair. or that you just don't wear. Bundle them up and, if they are in good shape, donate them away.
- Take the time to clean out drawers and closets and corners. Take everything out. Empty bags and boxes. Make it a point that nothing gets put back unless you actually use it.
- Put the things you use (or want to use) within easy reach. Why make your life more difficult? You'll want to be moisturizing more in the winter — between cold, wind, and dry furnace heat — why not keep your body lotion close to the bed so you can smooth it on each night?
- Give special attention to the places that seem to be clutter magnets: under the bed, the tops of dressers, etc.
I know all of this is a hassle. I'm facing it myself. But think how much calmer it will be to sleep in a room where everything is in its place. That's the recipe for a good's night sleep.
