Travel Remembrances

May 31, 2019So, you’ve had a wonderful vacation. Excellent! But all good things must come to an end. Here are some tasks to ease your transition back to your workaday life.
- Pick up and sort the mail as soon as possible. Separate it into three piles: bills and other things that require immediate action; things that can go right to the shredder or recycling bin; things that require attention — but not immediately.
- Clear out your email. Once again, divide it into address immediately, delete immediately, address later.
- Make sure that you have some basics for your meals the first day back: breakfast bars or frozen waffles, some soup for lunch, and pasta with sauce for dinner. You can go to the grocery store the next day.
- If you’ve traveled across several time zones, consider giving yourself an extra day to rest and re-acclimate before you return to work.
- Unpack as soon as possible. Unpacking isn’t complete until laundry is done, the suitcase is put away, and souvenirs have found their final resting place.
- Don’t even try to catch up with social media.
- Set aside a day to organize your photos, souvenirs, etc. Label photos and back them up.
- Don’t overschedule yourself (at work or home) the week after you return. There is no benefit to wearing yourself to a frazzle as soon as you get home.
