A Recycling Party
October 13, 2008Christmas Countdown – 10 Weeks
October 15, 2008Well, the new Indiana Jones movie is out on DVD today. That makes it a good day to undertake your own archaeological adventure.
It's time to clean the freezer.
I know. There are scary things in there. plastic bags filled with foil wrapped mysteries. Containers that could be a leftover snowball or frozen chicken — hard to tell with all the frost.
As a basic rule, if you can't figure out what it is, you should probably throw it away. Also toss anything freezer burned or seriously discolored.
For the things that are still good, plan menus to use some of what you have stored. Of course, you can keep storing things placed there recently, but you do want to make sure to use things nearing the end of their storage life. Unless you plan for defrosting and cooking, you know you won't do that.
Also, take a look at the things you are tossing. What sorts of things tend to languish in the back of the freezer. Maybe you shouldn't buy those things in quantity. If you do, make sure you have a plan to use them.
