Back to School: Scheduling
August 17, 2011Back to School: The Food Question
August 19, 2011Another important thing to do as you get ready for back to school is to set up places in the house for key tasks.
First, there should be one place for school forms and the like. Perhaps each child could have a separate folder in a single hanging folder rack. All letters, permission slips, etc. go in there. A second folder could be used for papers brought home, art projects, etc.
Second, you need a place for backpacks, gymbags, and the rest of the paraphernalia that goes to and from school. If it's always in the same place, you don't need to wonder where it is. Plastic containers or cubbies are excellent for this.
Third, a place in the bedroom to lay out tomorrow's school clothes in a necessity. It avoids the morning debate about what to wear.
Finally, and most important, there should be a designated place to study: well-lit and quiet. No tv or Wii or other such distractions. Kids should have space to spread out their books. Ideally, a parnt or other adult is always close by for questions and supervision.
