Today is the autumnal equinox — the day when light and dark come into balance.  From today until the solstice, day will ground to night.

It is also the first day of autumn.  I have to admit, it's my very favorite season.  It includes my birthday, hallowwen, and Thanksgiving.  Football is in full swing and the World Series will take place.  Bitter cold hasn't yet set in, but the air has a crispness that makes a walk followed by an evening in front of the fire seem like heaven.   The trees wear their colorful best and autumn's bounty of vegetables comes forth — many of my favorite foods.
