Do Without
May 16, 2016Side Effects of Decluttering
May 20, 2016I wanted to share this fascinating article with you. It raises some very interesting points.
Even more, it points out quite starkly that the whole "lifestyle" industry as we know it today is really a creation of privilege. It is privileged to be able to amass cookbooks or seek out recipes online, to acquire often specialty ingredients or utensils, to purchase craft supplies and to have the free time to transform those supplies into something usable (though typically non-essential). Having clutter and being able to dispose of extras is, of itself, a sign of good fortune. Celebrating holidays as a time of joy rather than the unremitting stress that you are failing your children because there will be no gifts or parties or decorations or special meals is a sign of privilege.
I think living graciously and celebrating well is important or I would have stopped this blog years ago. But I strive to remember my great good fortune and strive to be more caring and generous.
