Planning a Meal
July 18, 2019Using Your Ice Cube Trays
July 22, 2019It’s always great to have a few things in your arsenal to punch up the flavor of a dish. Your add-ins will depend on the flavors you like, but here are some ideas to get you started:
- Adding butter or cream to a soup will make it silky and rich (and increase the fat and calories, so use this one judiciously).
- Add some heat with crushed red pepper flakes, a dash of hot sauce, wasabi, or siracha.
- Nutmeg enhances the flavor of dark green vegetables like spinach, Brussels sprouts, and kale.
- Melting some anchovies in a pot before you start cooking will add a rich flavor that isn’t particularly fishy.
- A little bit of citrus zest packs a huge punch on fruits and veggies or in dressings or custards.
- A bit of Worcestershire sauce adds some piquancy.
- A swirl of Dijon mustard can add depth to a sauce or gravy.
