I've always maintained that you should be flexible about your goals.  Often elements will be out of your control.  In other cases, your interests will change over time.

I have a new goal.  I started running about a year and a half ago.  I try to be very disciplined about it — running regularly, even when I travel. 

So I have decided that I want to run in every state.  So far, I have run in 8 states plus the District of Columbia.  I have a race in Virginia in about 3 weeks and I have a business trip in Massachusetts in August that will give me a chance to run there.  40 more to go!
