The Christmas Season is still in full swing! It used to be that the celebration didn’t even begin until Christmas Eve and it lasted until January 6th — the Twelve Days of Christmas (ring a bell? No matter what Hallmark and Disney tell you, the Twelve Days of Christmas were NOT before the 25th).
Now, we frontload all of our celebration — mixing preparation and celebration until we’re exhausted. Then Christmas arrives and we can’t wait to get to the next thing. Stores replace their Christmas displays with Valentine’s Day merchandise before the cocoa is cold. Some people even have their decorations down already!
Here’s an idea: Celebrate Christmas as long as possible — at least through New Year’s. We prepare for weeks to celebrate, so we should revel in that celebration as long as possible. in these remaining days of the Christmas season, heat up some cider or cocoa, watch a Christmas movie, keep Christmas music on the playlist, gather with friends and family, and generally give yourself permission to stay in a holiday spirit. That’s what I’m doing this week.
